Setting Up Silver Dolphin-Hosted Email on Your Android Phone

  1. If not already on the home screen, tap the home button below the screen.
  2. Tap on the menu button below the screen.  Then tap Settings.
  3. Scroll down until you find Accounts and sync and tap on that item.
  4. Tap on Add account. Find Email and tap it.
  5. Enter your full email address under Email address.  Enter your email password under Password.  Tap Next.  Your phone will start checking for auto setup information.
  6. After the auto-detect is complete, you will be asked "What type of account?"  If you plan on using your phone as one of multiple devices to receive email, select IMAP account.  If you will only be using your phone to read email, you may select POP3 account.
  7. The User name box will have only the first part of your email address from before the @ sign.  You will need to type in the rest of your email address for the user name.
  8. The IMAP server box or POP3 server box will display imap.silverdolphinsolutions.com or pop3.silverdolphinsolutions.com.  This will need to be changed to server1.silverdolphinsolutions.com for the SSL certificate to match.
  9. Under Security type, change NONE to SSL.  This will change the Port to 993 for IMAP, or 995 for POP3.
  10. Leave IMAP path prefix blank if using IMAP.  Tap Next.
  11. It will then show smtp.server1.silverdolphinsolutions.com in the SMTP server box.  Change this to simply server1.silverdolphinsolutions.com.
  12. Select SSL for the Security type.  The Port will change to 465.
  13. Require sign-in should be checked and the same user name and password should be carried over from the IMAP or POP3 settings. Tap Next, Next and then Done to complete the setup.

 

Changing Your Email Settings on an Android Phone
  1. If not already on the home screen, tap the home button below the screen.
  2. Tap on the menu button below the screen.  Then tap Settings.
  3. Scroll down until you find Accounts and sync and tap on that item.
  4. Tap on your email account.  Then tap Account settings.
  5. (If you have more than one account setup, you may need to select the account you want to modify from a list.)
  6. Scroll to the bottom.  Under Server settings, you will see Incoming settings and Outgoing settings.  Click on each of these and verify that the are as described above.

 

Troubleshooting

By far, the most common problem is typos.  It can be quite clumsy typing in your password and other credentials using the small touch screen keyboard on a cell phone.  You can verify your user name and password by logging into the Silver Dolphin webmail here.

Another common problem is issues with connecting through some Wi-Fi connections.  To bypass the Wi-FI issues, turn off the Wi-Fi and connect via 4G by going into your settings as described in steps 1 and 2 above.
